Solar Power Systems
Helcro Solar designs and installs solar power systems for Melbourne and Adelaide homes, businesses, and community properties. We are experienced solar installers for over 18 years, serving homes and businesses across the city and greater Victoria and South Australia. We are a Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited retailer and installer, meaning every system we recommend is independently assessed, correctly sized, and eligible for federal and government rebates.
A solar power system typically pays for itself within 3 to 6 years, after which the electricity generated is effectively free. Melbourne and Adelaide receive an average of 4.2 peak sun hours per day, making them two of Australia’s most productive solar markets.

Why Go Solar Now
Electricity prices have increased by an average of 8% per year over the past decade. A quality solar power system offsets the majority of your daytime consumption at zero marginal cost for 25+ years. The federal STC rebate scheme winds down annually, and installing in 2026 maximises the government contribution to your system cost.

OUR CORE SERVICE
Full-service solar power system installation for Melbourne and Adelaide homes and businesses, from initial energy assessment through to switch-on and ongoing support. End-to-end coverage: energy assessment, system design, site inspection, CEC-accredited installation, network approval, and switch-on. Every system is custom designed for your property, not selected from a fixed catalogue.

INSTALLATION METHODS
The two primary installation methods for solar power systems in Melbourne and Adelaide, chosen based on your roof condition, orientation, available space, and property type.

System Types
Three configurations determine how your solar system connects to the grid and interacts with battery storage. Helcro Solar recommends the right type based on your property's grid connection and energy independence goals.

SYSTEM SIZES
From compact 3kW systems for units and small homes through to 20kW systems for large households and small commercial properties. Helcro Solar sizes every system against your actual energy usage, not a generic estimate. Not sure what size you need?

Our Process
From your first question to a fully commissioned system, every stage is managed in-house. No subcontracting, no gaps, no guesswork.
Rebates and Incentives
Helcro Solar identifies every rebate your property qualifies for and manages the entire application process on your behalf at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most residential solar systems cost between $4,000 and $12,000 after government rebates, depending on system size and brand. A popular 6.6kW system typically starts from around $4,000 to $5,500 after the federal Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) discount is applied. Eligible households can reduce this further with the Solar Homes rebate of up to $1,400. Helcro Solar provides a detailed, obligation-free proposal so you know the exact cost before committing, with no hidden fees.
Yes. Victoria and South Australia offers some of Australia's strongest solar incentives, including federal STC rebates and the Solar Homes Program for eligible households. Melbourne and Adelaide receives an average of 4.2 peak sun hours per day, which is sufficient for most residential systems to deliver a payback period of 3 to 6 years. With electricity prices continuing to rise, solar remains one of the highest-return home investments available. Adding battery storage can further improve returns by reducing evening grid consumption.
The 20% rule caps how much solar energy your home can export back to the grid. Some distributors, including Jemena and United Energy, limit your inverter's export capacity to 20% of the local transformer's rated capacity. This means your approved export limit may be lower than your system's full generation output. The rule does not stop you generating and self-consuming solar power freely. Helcro Solar manages all network approval paperwork and advises on your specific export limit during the design process, so your system is correctly sized and compliant from day one.
Most homeowners who remove solar panels do so to upgrade to a newer, more efficient system rather than because the panels have failed. The most common reasons are a failed inverter (inverters typically last 10 to 15 years while panels last 25 years), declining feed-in tariff rates as low as 3.3 cents per kWh making export less financially rewarding, roof replacement work, or wanting to add battery storage to a system that cannot support it. Panels themselves rarely stop producing power before 25 years, they simply generate less as they age. If your existing system is underperforming, Helcro Solar offers a free audit and will recommend the most cost-effective solution, whether that is an inverter replacement, a system upgrade, or adding battery storage.
Quality solar panels are typically warranted for 25 years and rated to produce at least 80% of their original output at that point. After 25 years, panels rarely stop working entirely; they gradually produce less power. Most Melbourne and Adelaide homeowners at this stage choose to upgrade to newer, higher-efficiency panels or add battery storage. Inverters will likely have already been replaced once during this period, as their lifespan is typically 10 to 15 years. The structural mounts and wiring are generally still serviceable and compatible with newer equipment.
