Solar System Troubleshooting
Most solar faults show up in one of two places: the inverter or your switchboard. Check your inverter first for any lights or error codes, then check the solar circuit breaker in your switchboard, labelled Solar PV, Inverter Supply or Solar System. If the breaker has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, stop and contact our electrical services team.
It is also worth checking your home network. Many modern inverters rely on a Wi-Fi or ethernet connection to report production data to your monitoring app. If your modem is offline or the signal is weak, the app may show no data even when the system is running normally. Restart your modem and check that the inverter is connected before concluding there is a fault. For solar power system clients installed by us, our team can often diagnose the issue remotely once connectivity is restored.
Low Output

If none of these common causes apply and you are still seeing consistently low production, give us a call on 1300435276. Persistent underperformance can indicate a panel, wiring or inverter issue worth diagnosing early before it worsens.
Low Output
Safe Reset
A power cycle safely disconnects the inverter from both the panels and the grid, and resolves many common faults like communication errors and minor failures. Complete this process during daylight only. If you encounter any safety hazard at any step, stop immediately and call 1300 435 276.
Safety First
A power cycle is safe for minor faults, but in the situations below do not touch the system. Shut it down using the switchboard only if safe to do so, and call Helcro Solar immediately on 1300 435 276.

Smoke, burning smells, sparking or storm damage? Do not touch the system. Shut it down only if safe, and call emergency immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
Low production is most commonly caused by one of four things: weather, shading, extreme heat, or normal panel degradation. Overcast or rainy conditions naturally reduce output, and it is worth comparing against a similar weather day rather than your peak summer performance. New trees, buildings, dirt or bird droppings can shade panels, and even a small amount of shading significantly impacts the system. Solar panels are also less efficient in extreme heat, and all panels experience a slight efficiency loss over their lifespan. If none of these apply and production remains consistently low, call us on 1300 435 276.
Yes. Most modern inverters use Wi-Fi or ethernet to send production data to your monitoring app. If your modem is offline, restarting or experiencing a weak signal, the app may show no data or display an error even when the solar system itself is running fine. Before assuming a fault, restart your modem, wait for it to fully reconnect, and check whether the inverter re-establishes its connection. If production data returns to normal, the issue was network-related rather than a system fault. If the app still shows no data after the modem is back online, call us on 1300 435 276.
After a safe power cycle, a solar inverter can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 30 minutes to fully reboot and reconnect to the grid. You will know it is working correctly when you see a steady green light or a message on the display that says Normal, Working or Grid Tie. If the display stays blank or the same fault reappears after the reboot, do not attempt further resets. Contact Helcro Solar on 1300 435 276 for a diagnosis.
Call Helcro Solar on 1300 435 276 immediately for any safety risk: smoke, burning smells, sparking, visible physical damage, or a system that is wet or flood-affected. Also call if your circuit breaker keeps tripping after a single reset attempt, the same error code returns immediately after a restart, a high grid voltage error will not clear on its own, or an isolator switch feels stuck or stiff. For everything else, one safe daylight power cycle is a reasonable first step before calling. Having the error code photographed and the fault start time noted will help us resolve your issue faster.
